Vila Real, Douro
Winemaker: Miguel Ferreira & Celso Pereira
Sustainable & Vegan
Favaios in the heart of the Douro Valley is a cooperative with many top quality associates who care and look after each one of their grapes with passion. They started this association in 1952 and the winery combines new technology with the region's centuries old winemaking traditions, which makes all the difference in the quality of their wines. Wines from the Douro are typically slighter higher in price but at Adega de Favaios they manage to focus on quality at a lower price. No compromises are made they simply embrace the future by taking care of the past. Some of their wines are certified vegan and in 2018 they were hailed as “One of the best tasting spots on the Douro river cruise” by The Telegraph.
Still or sweet this producer is hard to beat!

Favaios 10 Years only uses the best Moscatel grapes from the best harvest years. Fermentation lasts about three days with intense skin maceration & temperature controlled at 15-16 ºC. The wine spirits are then added to the grapes & must, interrupting fermentation so as to obtain a wine with high alcohol content & residual sugar. Moscatel de Favaios 1980 SIZA
FAV-1980MSCT - 1980 - Moscatel Galego (100%) - 19%
Favaios 1980 is was made in an exceptional year. After the selection of the premium grapes, they are macerated and fermented traditionally. The alcoholic fermentation is very short, and immediately after the formation of a layer of sediments, the majority of the must is separated from the skins and spirits are added. A small part of the must continue to ferment and macerate on skins for a few more days and only later is this very aromatically rich must fortified. The first and second fortified must are then blended and stored in very old wooden casks and then slowly aged improving its bouquet over decades.
Tasting Notes: Very intense aroma and still preserves some citrus aromas. Elegant aromas, such as walnut, dried figs, toasted wood, and cocoa, balsamic and chutney. It is voluminous but delicate on the palate, with its sweetness balanced by the acidity, both fresh and elegant. FABULOUS!
Serving Temperature & Matching: To be enjoyed after a meal. Serve at a temperature of 12-14C and once open keep it in the fridge to keep freshness. Keeps for average of 3/4 months. Pairs well almonds, hazelnuts, fruit cakes and Christmas pies. We love it by itself. Seat comfortably and chill while drinking it!
