Beaujolais, France
Oenologist: Benoit Merchier
Environmental Practice: Organic, Vegan Friendly, Low Sulphites & Sustainable Agriculture
La Famille K is the family’s story, composed of Marianne, Benoit, Jeanne & Agathe. Previously both white collar workers, obviously stressed out, they decided to leave the city life to work passionately, in Beaujolais.
Marianne & Benoit married in Saint Amour (in Beaujolais) & then went on to make wines in Argentina, New Zealand & more, before finally ending up in Morancé. In the heart of the Pierre Dorées (golden stones country) where they fell in love with Beaujolais. Described as a place full of desire & passion, they were empowered by it, so they bought a 12ha vineyard in early 2018, to live their vision!
Benoit & his family, produce unpretentious wines to demonstrate that wine can be high quality & still accessible to everyone. They are against chemical pesticides, instead using the organic farming method for grape production. Innovating & using technology to naturally create wines with a lower carbon footprint (wine pressing machines, gravity flow, temperature control, water consumption, etc). Now certified sustainable by Terra Vitis, a French certification of sustainable & organic farming conversion.
Their grapes are proudly displayed with limited input from themselves, letting nature do it’s thing, with very minimal use of sulphur! Classing all their wines as low in sulphites, just a touch to protect them!
(Total combined sulphites between 50 & 80 mg/l) Their wines express personalities through different cuvées, both in red & white: L’Héritière, personified by the daughters & La Mère, his wife Marianne, the heart of the vineyard!
Brilliant Beaujolais,
That doesn’t break the bank…
